What We Believe
The following are short explanations of commonly debated topics within the Christian community. If you would like further elaboration or have a question about something that is not listed below, please feel free to send us a message.
Eternal Salvation
At Our Victory Church we believe that once you have been saved you will remain that way forever. However, there are a large amount of people who profess to be saved but nothing changes in their life. In that situation, we believe the person has only had a religious experience and has never been saved.
John 10:28, Rom 8:29-39, and John 3:15
Creation
We believe that the LORD created the world in Seven literal days roughly 6000 years ago.
Genesis 1 and Genesis 2:1-3
Tongues
The Gift of tongues was a gift given at Pentecost and was more a gift of understanding than anything else. If I said hello and you spoke spanish you would here hola then another person in the room who spoke German would hear hallo.
Acts 2 and 1st Corinthians 14
Abortion
Life begins at conception and having an abortion is sin. However, all sin is equal in the eyes of God, and he offers us all forgiveness for our sins no matter what they are. So as Christians we ought not to treat any individual differently because they have sinned differently than us. We are all equally undeserving of his mercy.
Psalm 139:13-18, Jeremiah 1:4-5, Rom:3-23, and Matthew 5:21-22/27-28
Resurrection of Christ
Jesus Christ physically resurrected from the grave after dying on the cross three days prior. He did this under his own power and was seen by hundreds after resurrecting. He would then live on Earth another 40 days before physically ascending to heaven. This is not symbolic it is a literal resurrection from the dead.
Luke 23:46, John 19:34, John 20:11-15, John 20:24-29, Acts 1:1-10, 1st Corinthians 15:14-19
Trinity/Godhead
The Trinity/Godhead is the short way of saying that God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit are all one. This sounds like a complicated idea but in practice it really isn't. Imagine you were in a room with people that you work with. They would see you as their coworker. Then imagine your significant other and child walked in they would see you as their spouse and parent. Finally, if your mother walked into that same room, she would see you as her child. In that room you are one person but have four different roles. If you can be four things, why can't God be three? Just keep in mind that the Trinity is omnipresent all that means is God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit are everywhere at once. It goes a little deeper than that, but this is a brief description, and we would be happy to answer any questions you have.
Colossians 2:8-9, John 10:30, John 1:1/1:14, Psalm 33:14, and Number 32:23
Jesus 100% God 100% Man
Jesus is 100% God and 100% man. All that means is God came to earth in a human form and while he was here, he had all the same struggles we do every day.
John 10:30, John 11:35, John 4:6, and Luke 4:1-14
Salvation
Salvation is in faith alone.
Galatians 2:16 and Ephesians 2:8-9
Good Works
Scripture is clear that our good works do not save us but are extremely important. They're so important because it is what naturally happens if you have been saved. If you claim that you are saved but you continue living life the same way you always have then you haven't been saved you've had a religious experience. If you feel like this is you please message us on Facebook, Instagram, or send us an email.
Hebrews 10:26 and James 2:17-26
Baptism
We are commanded to be baptized but it is not a part of salvation. Baptism illustrates that the old man is dead and that you are a new creature in Christ.
Matthew 28:19-20, Galatians 2:20, and 2nd Corinthians 5:17
Women in Church
Women are held to the same standards as men when it comes to clothing as long as its appropriate/not revealing you're welcome to wear it. When it comes to what women can do in church they can sing in front of the church, lead the church in prayer, testify in church, ask for prayer request, and everything else other than be in a leadership position over men which includes preaching. 1st Corinthians 14 is often misinterpreted to mean all women when in reality it was directed solely at the women attending the Corinthian Church addressing their sins.
1st Timothy 3:2-12
Giving
If you noticed, we don't have a giving tab and if you attend a service in person, you will notice we don't pass a plate. Scripture is clear that every Christian is supposed to give at least 10 percent of their pre-taxed income to their church, but we refuse to be one of those churches that begs for money. We further believe that you can't outgive the Lord and would encourage to do so but that is your personal decision.
Leviticus 27:30-32, Mark 12:12-17, and 1st Corinthians 16:1-2
Scripture
At Our Victory Church we encourage the use of the KJV Bible but understand that other translations are easier to use for some people and that is fine. However, we do caution people against versions that are a translation of a translation and versions that remove entire pieces of scripture.
Deuteronomy 4:2 and 2 Timothy 3:16
Communion
This is the practice of observing the last supper that was held before Jesus’ arrest, trial, persecution and crucifixion. It is important that we understand that Communion is an ordinance (not a sacrament) that we practice as Christians together about once a month when The Lord moves us to do so. Jesus tells us to take the bread which represents His body, that was broken for us, break it and eat it in remembrance of Him. Likewise, we are instructed to drink from the cup which represents His blood that was shed for us, in remembrance of Him. Matthew 26:17–29; Mark 14:12–25; Luke 22:7–38; and I Corinthians 11:23–25
Fellowship
We believe that we were all created in the image of God and that our sole purpose of our creation is to glorify Him. We are ALL equally broken people living in a broken world separated from God because of that sin. It is only through The Blood of Jesus Christ are we made acceptable before a perfect God. Fellowship is participation with one another in various ways. None of us are above or below one another, it is only God that is superior.
We FELLOWSHIP with those that are lost, in order to glorify God and also to win them to Christ.
We FELLOWSHIP with our brothers in sisters in Christ in order to glorify God and ask God to move and work among us into the likeness of Him.
We FELLOWSHIP with GOD unequally and unworthily as His Children that have been adopted through The Blood of Christ insomuch as to have a personal relationship with Him. He is the potter, we are the clay. He yearns to be with us and commune with us and it pleases Him and enriches us to have an active personal relationship with Him. In whatever we do we do so to glorify Him.
Revelations
God chooses to reveal Himself to each of us in His own way. Some have said to have heard the “audible voice of God” and others may say that they could just “feel that God was leading them.” 2 Corinthians 12 tell us that none ought to boast about “special revelations” as if we are exceptionally above another in Christ. We are also cautioned to be antsy about receiving revelations. He warned the Corinthians in 1 Corinthians of OVERREACHING and creating sensations that are so called from God, that are actually just something that we have conjured up. He ensures them that they are enriched in all knowledge and come behind in no gifts of God. To sum it up, God will bring the fire. He doesn’t need us to fire Him up
The Church
The church is made up of many members that are His Children and each member is vital to represent Christ on Earth and function as His working body for the advancement of His Kingdom. Ephesians 4:11-16
